Wanting to explore Kyoto? Virtual sightseeing with Scout Leader Shige

Are you a Scout and wanting to explore Kyoto but being hampered by prevailing travel restrictions?

Do not be dismayed, Scout leader Shige Takahashi is here you!

When pandemic broke out last year, Shige thought of having an international exchange. So he started contacting his overseas friends and interacting with them. And that’s how he met Zellagui Foued, a Scout leader from Algeria, who is a big fan of Kyoto.

“When I talked to Zellaguie, I learned that he loves Japan very much that he listed it as one of the tourist destinations he longs to visit someday. Immediately, I sent him photos of Kyoto and I saw how he was pleased and even introduced me to his troop.”

For someone like Shige who has been doing Scouting for 38 years, he wanted to give his overseas Scout friends the atmosphere of Kyoto.

When he saw the excitement in Zellagui’s eyes, he knew that he can do more. So he organized a virtual sightseeing with the help of his wife.

“So we went to different locations of Kyoto, and shared some facts about it. And at that moment, I also felt that Africa is a little closer.”

Shige believed that when you have a good idea, no matter how small or  plain it may appear, you just have to take steps forward, and your brothers and sisters in Scouting will be waiting for you with their hands open.
