Scouting in Portugal Wins a European Citizen Prize for 2020
The Portuguese Scouts of CNE have won European Citizen’s Prize 2020 for their project Education for active citizenship, youth empowerment and skills for life development . Following a proposal from Portuguese Member of the European Parliament José Manuel Fernandes, CNE has been awarded the prize. Such a recognition aims to highlight the association's work in the field of education for active citizenship and youth skills development.
MEP José Manuel Fernandes commented on the decision by saying:
"It is a fair public recognition for the work developed in Scouting with an excellent contribution to the education of young people and with impactful results for the creation of a better society, developed and sustained by European and humanistic values".
Ivo Faria, Chief Scout of CNE pointed out that the the Prize is a great honour and a fair recognition to the thousands of volunteers who manage to stay motivated, despite the current challenging times, to keep up the Scouting spirit.
“We are very happy with this recognition, which rewards, above all, our local groups, where the real magic of youth personal development takes place.” He added.
By decision of the Chancellery of the European Citizen Prize, CNE has been one of the winners of the 2020 edition, being the only Portuguese candidate to deserve this distinction.
