A rare hurricane-like storm swept across Greece, flooding streets and homes and cutting power in the last two weeks of September. In less than three months, the region of Karditsa, has faced another episode of heavy rainstorm, resulting in tremendous flooding, severe damage and several casualties.

Armed with muddy Scout scarves and a great will to serve their communities in times of need, the Greek Scouts mobilised dozens of volunteers to offer relief assistance in close collaboration with the local civil protection services.

Dozens of houses have been affected, several bridges collapsed , and many livestock units have been reported as drowned or lost.

The Scouts focused on ensuring a safe decluttering  of home entrances to help residents regain access to their home yards.

They have also helped the local community clean out mud following the storm and especially offered assistance to the elderly.  Food banks have also been arranged and distributed to provide comfort and support to those affected.

Scouts have always risen to the challenges faced by their local communities. From natural disasters to Covid-19 relief actions, the Greek Scouts have been offering their outmost support service to their community.
