Chairs of WOSM and WAGGGS make joint visit to Tunisia

The Scout Association in Tunisia, Les Scouts Tunisiens, will receive several special guests this weekend. The Chairperson of the World Scout Committee, João Armando Gonçalves, representing the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), will be visiting the local Scouts and Guides together with Nicola Grinstead, the World Board Chair of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

During their visit from 1 July until 3 July, Gonçalves and Grinstead will witness some of the local activities and long-term projects initiated by the Tunisian Scouts and Guides. Their presence will be an encouragement to the young people – that their efforts are appreciated and that they are truly contributing towards creating a better world and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Scouting’s non-formal education and the community service performed by Scouts and Guides enable them to be change agents in taking the lead and influencing others to following their steps in making positive impact in the local communities.

Both Chairs are expected to meet the country’s President, Minister of Youth and Sports, the Minister of Women, Family and Children, and other top government officials to strengthen multilateral relationship.

As two of the oldest youth organisations in the world focused on empowering young men and women through non-formal education, WOSM and WAGGGS share common objectives in providing a holistic education for young people; fostering peace, dialogue and respect; and ensuring sustainable development throughout many generations.

The meeting with the Tunisian government, Scouts and Guides will facilitate discussions and pave the way for a continuous and long-term partnership to help develop the country, especially with its young population and growing economy.
