Messengers of Peace funds 25 projects promoting peace and sustainability

3 minutes

Twenty-five national, regional, and global community impact projects focused on advancing peace and sustainability around the world have been awarded grants from the Messengers of Peace Fund.

The announcement marks the first activation of renewed funding from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which will see more projects expected to receive support in the coming months. This will further strengthen efforts to advance youth empowerment, community development, and leadership through grassroots initiatives and larger-scale projects.

In total, USD 3 million will be channelled through World Scouting and the World Scout Foundation to National Scout Organizations (NSOs). These funds will not only empower young people to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing our planet but also enhance the capacity of NSOs through training, workshops, and services. They will also support regional and global initiatives and events that engage young people and volunteers in building a global culture of peace and dialogue.

Here are some of the projects that have been awarded funding:

National Peace Ambassadors (Kenya)

In Kenya, the National Peace Ambassadors initiative will equip young people with the skills, confidence, and networks to lead peace and community-building efforts ahead of the 2027 national elections. The project will empower Scouts aged 18–30 through practical training, digital advocacy, and peer-to-peer engagement to drive lasting change in communities and contribute to a more peaceful and resilient society.

Scouts Go Circular (Thailand)

In Thailand, the Scouts Go Circular is tackling recycling and waste segregation efforts in urban communities. The project will train 200 Scouts in Bangkok as "eco ambassadors”, establish Scout-managed recycling stations, and run awareness campaigns in schools and public spaces. By partnering with local authorities and recyclers, the project aims to divert at least 5 tons of recyclables from landfills and engage over 10,000 residents.

Voices for Change (Romania)

In Romania, the Voices for Change project will support NSOs in addressing social challenges through workshops at schools, community service projects, peace forums, and creative campaigns. Around 500 young people and 100 youth leaders will be directly involved, reaching over 13,000 community members. By equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to act as change agents, the project aims to foster inclusive, resilient communities, promote social cohesion, and strengthen support to youth workers.

Since 2010, the Messengers of Peace initiative has empowered millions of Scouts to lead community impact projects and contribute close to 3 billion hours of service for peace and sustainability worldwide. Its continued impact is supported through the generous contributions and partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which has committed USD 50 million through the World Scout Foundation over the next decade to expand Scouting’s global impact.
