As it is known to all of you, today Coronavirus has infected more than 127,800 people around the world, which 4,641 have died, there are confirmed cases in 125 countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared this new disease a pandemic.

Taking action on this situation, today has been determined by the Senior Management Team of the World Scout Bureau (WSB) the following:

1.- Suspension of all meetings, workshops and events in all WOSM regions, without exception.

2.- Suspension of all official and personal travel for all WSB staff at all Support Centres;

3.- Reduction of workplace risk through compulsory work from home;

4.- Introduction of additional measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all staff;

5.- Contingency plan in case of suspected infection cases in the WSB.

Therefore, the activities within the Interamerican Scout Region, scheduled to take place in the upcoming months of March and April, have been suspended and will be rescheduled or, if necessary, carried out in a virtual manner. This includes visits to National Scout Organizations that our staff would perform to provide some service requested through the Service Model Platform.

The staff will remain at your disposal to serve, we will continue working from our homes to attend to your phone calls, messages and emails. We will continue to hold coordination meetings between ourselves, these being virtual.

The Secretary General of WOSM, Ahmad Alhendawi, has asked us to take care of our health and to report daily on our condition in order, if necessary, to receive the necessary support.

We urge the NSOs, if they have not done yet, to request their scout units and groups to avoid physical meetings and we also urge NSOs to suspend all meetings at the district, zonal, provincial and regional level. We also recommend that National Scout Headquarters to give their staff the opportunity to execute their work from home.

As scouts we must be part of the solution, it is in our hands to take care of our health and invite others to do so, always, but especially in these extraordinary situations.

We are confident that we will find creative ways to keep youth active in Scouting, even while staying at home. Today technology gives us that opportunity, let us make the best use of it.
