World Scouting launches new service model for its member organisations

The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) has launched a new platform to structure and streamline the support available to its 169 National Scout Organizations (NSOs), to improve their capacity to deliver a better Scouting experience to young people worldwide.

The online platform, known as the WOSM Service Model (services.scout.org), groups support into 12 key areas, offering bespoke toolkits and guides, e-learning and in-person assistance tailored to the needs of the organisation making the request.

“The introduction of the Service Model marks a shift in the way WOSM supports its NSOs,” Ahmad Alhendawi, Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, wrote in a circular to NSOs on Monday. “For the first time, and building on the accumulated experience of many, we will have a concentrated, streamlined and well-recorded effort towards delivering the best possible support to all our NSOs.”

As part of the initial testing of the platform, and in line with the Triennial Plan’s focus on growth, WOSM will work closely with 30 NSOs on the planning, delivery and evaluation of the services, but all NSOs are welcome to try out the platform. It will be refined according to feedback from users and is expected to be available in French and the other working languages of WOSM by January 2019.

The Service Model covers the Youth Programme, Youth Engagement, Adults in Scouting, Safe from Harm, Better World Framework, Diversity and Inclusion, Spiritual Development, Scouting and Humanitarian Action, Good Governance, Global Support Assessment Tool, Communications, and Partnerships.

“The development and growth of Scouting is high on the agenda of each of our NSOs, because we believe that to create a better world we need more Scouts,” said Craig Turpie, Chairperson of the World Scout Committee. “The Service Model, for the first time, gives us a coordinated approach to providing effective support that will deliver the development and growth that our NSOs are working hard to achieve.”

The development and coordination of the model – and training of WOSM consultants - was the result of collaboration between World Scouting’s global and regional bodies, and the support of the Messengers of Peace Support Fund.
