About Chooi Yew Tzen

1980 to 1982: Starts Scouting as a 10-year-old cub in Alor, Star, Kedah - the nation's rice bowl capital. Earliest lessons learned in knots & lashing, backwoods cooking, first aid, stalking and Kim's Game.
1983 to 1984: Joins Scout at Kolej Sultan Abdul Hamid in Alor, Setar, Kedah. Went camping to places like Gunung Jerai, performed "Job Week", helped cleaned orphanages, took part at State level parades plus lots of footdrill. Completed "Usaha". Learned semaphore, morse code, songs, trailcraft and signs.
1985: Transfers to St. Paul's Institution in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan and joins 3rd Seremban Scout Troop. Learning pioneering, campcraft, advanced knots and lashing, rafting, Quartermastering, sketches, B-P & Scouting history, etc... Made Patrol Scribe. Best Patrol, Red Crescent - Scouts Combined Camp.
1986: Asst Patrol Leader, Francis Drake Patrol & Troop Sketchmaster. Champion Patrol, La Salle Combined Camporee 1986, Coronation Park, Penang
1987: Patrol Leader, Francis Drake Patrol & Troop Sketchmaster. Completes & qualifies for King's Scout (Pengakap Raja)
1988: Receives King's Scout (Pengakap Raja) certificate from His Royal Highness Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Ja'afar ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman at Hinggap Palace (Istana Hinggap), Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. Entrusted as Asst Scout Master, Senior Troop, 3rd Seremban Scout Troop. Receives Best Scout Award, 3rd Seremban Scout Troop. Leads weekly Court of Honour meetings.
1989: Continues serving as Asst Scout Master, Senior Troop, 3rd Seremban Scout Troop. Organises camps for Senior Scouts including backwoodsman cooking competition and weekly activities.
1990: Scouter (for the next seven years), 3rd Seremban Scout Troop
2010: Joins fraternity of Association of Top-Achiever Scouts World (ATAS World)
2011: Took initiave with other Pengakap Raja in the state to form King's Scout Brotherhood of Malaysia (Negeri Sembilan), with the State Commissioner Hamdan Hj Mohd Nor as the advisor. Chaired pro-tem committee.
2012: Elected by peers to chair King's Scout Brotherhood of Malaysia (Negeri Sembilan). Appointed at Negeri Sembilan State Headquarter's Commissioner. Project manager and master of ceremony of ATAS World (Malaysia) Annual Gathering & Fellowship, author of "The Messenger 2012". Completes Woodbadge (Introduction). Attended APR Jamboree in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. Subscribes and registers as Ahli Bersekutu, Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia. Attends APR Correspondent Workshop in Manila, Philippines.
2013: Assists as Hon, Sec. and helps form pro-tem committee for ATAS World (Malaysia). Completes Woodbadge (Part 1). Facilitated training and three female Rovers to qualify as first Rovers in Negeri Sembilan to complete and qualify their B-P Awards. Leads and facilitates creation of a Scouting activity centre in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. Assists in maintenance of Negeri Sembilan State Headquarters with team of volunteers. Appointed as member of Negeri Sembilan State Technical Committee.
2014: Creates poster-sized 2014 calendar of Scouting in Negeri Sembilan. Appointed as member of Negeri Sembilan Scouting Technical Committee and represents state as Messenger of Peace Co-ordinator. Completes Woodbadge. Appointed Secretary, Malaysian Contingent to 23rd World Scout Jamboree 2015 Japan.
2015: Awarded Woodbadge by Negeri Sembilan State Chief Commissioner Hamdan Hj Md Nor. Volunteers as Akela for Cubs - Troop 35th Seremban Barat and 67th Seremban Barat, with weekend Cub Scout activities. Completes second Woodbadge course. Adviser to Troop 45th Seremban Barat and Rover Crew B Seremban Barat. Appointed as Negeri Sembilan Assistant State Commissioner and continues serving as Secretary for Malaysia Contingent to 23rd World Scout Jamboree 2015 Japan, and editor/ layout artist for official Malaysian Contingent publication. Organising Committee Secretary for 3rd's Own Scouting Development Fund, managed by the alumni of St. Paul's Institution, Seremban. Continue to serve as chair for Persaudaraan Pengakap Raja Malaysia (Negeri Sembilan) and managing as chair for B-P Guild Negeri Sembilan. Attends 23rd World Scout Jamboree 2015 Japan at Kirara-hama. Returns to host guests from Polish Scout Association in Kuala Lumpur, Seremban, Port Dickson and Ulu Bendul. Appointed to serve as Co-ordinator for ATAS-World membership ring. Organised 6 ATAS-Malaysia pro-tem committee meetings in 2015, completed Constitution. Designed Malaysian Contingent to 23rd World Scout Jamboree 2015 Japan certificates. Organised Camp Wolf 2015, first integrated Scout camp for Cubs, Junior, Senior and Rover Scouts at West Seremban District Scout Campsite. Completes first phase renovation of West Seremban District Scout Campsite. Begins speaking circuit in Seremban, Seremban 2, Port Dickson and Kuala Pilah.
2016: Hosts Korea Scout Association guests and former World Scout Committee chairman Simon Rhee Hang Bock in Melaka. Re-elected by peers to continue serving as Negeri Sembilan King's Scout Brotherhood of Malaysia chairman. Awarded Sabah Scout Association Chief Commissioner Award (Gold) and 100 Years of Scouting in Sabah (Gold) by Sabah State Chief Commissioner and Deputy National Chief Commissioner Datuk Dr. Awang Zaini Hj Suntim. Organised Camp Ready 2016 Port Dickson for Senior Scouts readying for their King's Scout (Pengakap Raja) assessment in 2016. Portfolio added to duties as Assistant State Scout Commissioner to now include Scouting Profile in addition to representing brotherhood of King's Scouts in the state. Organising Camp 2Ready 2016 Labu as well as Camp 3Ready 2016 for Senior Scouts readying for their King's Scout (Pengakap Raja) assessment in 2016 and 2017, as well as Youth Speak 2016, a youth forum for Scouts in Negeri Sembilan to be held later in 2016.
