New Nano app engages Scouts worldwide in taking urgent action for the SDGs
At the start of the 24th World Scout Jamboree, World Scouting announced the launch of a new interactive app designed to engage Scouts and other young people in taking action for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The nano app, created by Dallas tech startup 2Cimple, launched its partnership with the Jamboree at the event’s opening ceremony. nano offers users a gamified educational experience that empowers young people to live a more sustainable and eco-conscious lifestyle.
Through the app, young people discover why we need to take urgent action to improve the sustainability of planet Earth, and how they can be part of the solution by completing acts of community service, recruiting friends and volunteers to do good turns, and earning rewards through friendly competition.
As part of the app’s initial promotion at the Jamboree, the World Organization of the Scout Movement is calling on its membership of over 50 million Scouts worldwide to build upon their contribution towards the SDGs by participating in the global Scouts #MakeItHappen campaign. For example, Scouts can use the task #ScoutsRecycle in nano to organize local community actions like recycling clean-ups and upload a photo of their haul enabling the app to calculate the activity’s carbon offset.
A key supporter of the nano initiative is Anousheh Ansari, XPrize Foundation CEO. The first female private space explorer launched the Nano app and support the Scouts #MakeItHappen campaign at the 24th World Scout Jamboree opening ceremonies on July 23. Anousheh is thrilled to inspire the next generation of Scouts, especially young girls to dream big and realize they can achieve their goals. Her unique perspective adds a sense of scope and vision to the possibilities of this initiative.
“WOSM, powered by 2Cimple’s nano Network, is the ideal platform to engage and empower youth on a global scale; especially by aligning them with partners who share their desire to make a difference,” said Anousheh Ansari. “nano’s unique gamified experience will inspire a global culture of volunteerism and help youth learn more about our earth and our universe in the pursuit of transformative solutions.”
“As we boldly embark on the next frontier of the human experience, it will be important that our technological advances don’t outpace our sense of humanity to one another,” added Ansari. “If we can achieve this balance, our interstellar future shall hold great promise. The power is in the hands of our youth and it is our responsibility to provide an environment where their ideas, their energy and their unyielding belief in the possibilities can flourish.”
Scott Sorrels, Co-Chair of the organizing committee for the 2019 World Scout Jamboree, New World 19 LLC, added, “The 24th World Scout Jamboree is thrilled to have partnered with the nano app to further Scouting’s commitment to sustainability in the twenty-first century. We believe this technology has the power to connect like-minded individuals who want to do right by planet Earth and empower them to do so. We’re so happy Scouts will be leading the charge with the Scouts #MakeItHappen campaign.”
To drive engagement around the campaign and to ensure the appropriate infrastructure is in place to handle millions of new active users, nano has partnered with Amazon Web Services to receive technical support and bandwidth credits to support the app’s growth.
Syed Abbas, Founder and CEO of 2Cimple added “We’re so thrilled to have partnered with the World Scout Jamboree and World Organization of the Scout Movement. This partnership ensures millions of young people around the world will be able to use the nano app to make a positive impact in their local community. We are excited about our partners and their belief in working with us to help individuals’ small deeds make a big impact.”
