Scouting prepared me for leadership of Scout units of my children and in my communities. Scout Spirit and principles are foundations along with my parents' training, Church elders, older neighbors and my personal faith for my family and civic life. Cub Scouting got me out of the house and into my community. Boy Scouting led me out into the Woods and up high mountains in the Adirondack Mountain Range of New York. It prepared me for personal conquests of darker and taller mountains up steep trails in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Scouting provided me with leadership experience to give me confidence to lead when I was needed. I helped found one rowing program (Lafayette College, Easton PA (USA) and founded another (Western Oregon University, Monmouth, Oregon (USA) and led both.
Because of my youth experience in Scouting, I was involved in the Boy Scout life of my two sons. Both went far in Scouting and are better, more daring outddoorsmen than I am or was.
