The Tily of the Menabe take part in the reforestation of Madagascar
Within the celebration of Founder's Day 2020, the Tily eto Madagasikara from the town of Morondava, Menabe district, have set up their own botanical nurseries in collaboration with the Regional Forest Directorate of the Menabe region.
While the contribution to SDO 13, climate action, is at the heart of the Scout programme, the initiative also coincides with the vision and policy of the Malagasy Government: "Ho rakotra ala i Madagascar" ("Covering Madagascar with forest again").
For the Scouts, participation starts very early, among the Cub Scouts.
The Tily of Morondava have provided their own seedlings, and are helping to introduce young Scouts to reforestation techniques:
- Weeding and land preparation,
- Preparing the soil
- The Filling
- Bagging of seeds
- Watering technology
Soon, Morondava will see the growth of several Moringa or Ananambo (Moringa oleifera) plants, a dietary supplement.
Papaya (Carica papaya), fruit trees such as the Jujubier (Zizyphus sp.), typical of the extreme west of Madagascar and the Tamarind tree (Tamarindus indica), a fruit tree sacred to the Sakalava ethnic group of the Menabe.
