MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS - "We pride ourselves on courage and the ability to never show weakness but mental health touches us all" Brandon Marshall
Mental health affects us all. It's cardinal we highlight and bring about the much needed awareness on this important topic and issues surrounding mental health, as well as the importance of wellbeing and wellness. The World mental health day falls on 10th October, each year. The goal is to raise mental health awareness. Each of us can contribute to ensure that people dealing with problems concerning mental health can live better lives with dignity.
On 10th October, 2019, Team Sixx Scout Group held some sessions of mental health awareness activities to commemorate World Mental Health Awareness Day.
The first session was an awareness and interaction activity, where the Scouts spoke and shared on a wide range of general mental health issues and circumstances that affect or destabilise our well being. Problems discussed ranged from bullying, suicide, different types of abuses (Physical, verbal, sexual etc). How in some circumstances solutions can be addressed or found and how to work towards our wellbeing and wellness as well as helping others.
The second session was an activity where each Scout participating had to paint a face on how they were feeling inside, whether sad, happy or confused. A general discussion on the different painted faces was held after.
The third session was an activity on team building, group stress coping skill and support system amongst the team while having an interactive competitive fun game.
