For over 100 years, Scouting’s successful existence has been based on the fact that it has taken the responsibility to provide a safe environment for children and young people, to support their development. The relationship between youth members and adult leaders proposed by Baden-Powell and the focus on leader training have been key pillars that help Scouting retain its attractiveness to young people and retain quality and consistency in the Movement.
In several countries, WOSM has been a pioneer in this field and has many examples of contributing to improving policy and practice in other youth organizations, and in some cases pushing their governments to take action for the safety of young people.
