Venezuelan Rovers bring holiday cheer to the young and elderly
Grupo Capitan Moroni and Funthasid Rover Scouts from San Cristobal, Táchira, Venezuela, held a year-end donation campaign for the children’s ward at the Central Hospital and a nursing home a few months back.
They promoted their campaign through six radio stations and social media, and by collecting donation from door-to-door. Soon, they had a sizeable amount of donations in the form of food, clothes and toys. After sorting out the items and finalising the logistics, they delivered the items during the recent holiday season.
It was a real godsend, especially considering their country is facing challenging times. Many Venezuelans are losing weight and children are dying in hospitals because basic medicine and equipment are not available.
Campaign coordinator, Gabriel C. Márquez, credited the success of the campaign to teamwork. ‘If it weren’t for the efforts and contributions of the Rovers and members of the local community, the project wouldn’t have been successful.’
It was a fantastic way to end the year – bringing joy to sick children as well as the elderly. 'Even during the worst crisis, there are people who are still willing to reach out and help others,’ said Gabriel.
What an inspiring campaign... Great job guys! Do you have or know of a similar campaign in your country? Share it with us by uploading it on scout.org.
