Scout group Zvijezda Vareš Scout Association in Bosnia and Hercegovina The report about activities of Scout group Zvijezda Vareš in the recovery of damage inflicted from floods and landslides in the period of 16 May to 18 May 2014. On 15.05.2014. in the evening a associate staff meeting was held to discuss the activities undertaken in connection with the difficult situation caused by numerous landslides at several locations, and flooding in the city due to the spill of Bukov creek. All exits from the city were blocked due to landslides and the street Put mira ( Road of peace ) from Jojić bridge to building P +4 was flooded. According to information from the municipality, there was no need for the collection of humanitarian aid, as only a few families in the area of municipality moved out and they were took in to care, so the focus of the scout activities was on directing Bukov creek and repairing the damage. On the 16.05.2014., About 40 members of the Scout group Zvijezda Vareš (scouts over 15 years and highlanders), with the help of KES Perun Valium and citizens who have joined, they were able to build embankments in the street Put mira ( Road of peace ), so to avoid the spate from residential buildings in this part of town and streamline the river Stavnja. At the same time, considering the treat of spate to break the the embankment towards the city center, thanks to human efforts the embankment was reinforced by earth bags, and thereby eliminated the risk of flooding of the primary school, the park, markets and other facilities located in that part of town . Also the water was pumped out of the basement of Ms Mijatovic Rank's hom. On the same day the area around the primary school and a large park was cleared from layers of mud, sticks, rocks, garbage, etc. to allow undisturbed access to the school. Considering that on 16.05.2014. ,all municipal resources were directed at unblocking the road to Breza and Sarajevo, and at repairing of landslides, responsible for activities in the city was the Scout group Zvijezda Vareš On the 18.05.2014., About 60 members of the Scout group Zvijezda Vareš (younger Scouts, older scouts and highlanders), participated in the cleaning action of the city and repairing the damage incurred, which is organized by the municipality of Vareš. Groups of 10 or so scouts and highlanders were deployed together with the citizens at landslide areas, in order to eliminate layers of mud and earth from residential buildings, while the younger scouts entirely clean mud, rocks, trash and garbage at a small area of the park and the park at the old bridge. Given the considerable turnout of (about 400 participants), after these actions , repaired were almost all visible consequences of landslides and floods. Path to Breza at the site gate is enabled (walkable was one traffic lane), although at that site there is still at risk of landslides. During the action of raising funds from highlanders in the country and from locale population emigrated to foreign countries, which, depending on the amount will be used for the purchase of construction materials needed to repair houses of citisens damaged by the floods and landslides, or the money will be hand over to them. Also, packages of help are collected, and so they are mked by the content , for example "Babies ", "working material " (work gloves, masks, boots), "Food ", "Hygienic means " etc. In accordance with Scout group "Safet Ribic " Nemila, these packages will will be focused at that area, and also we plan to take part in the cleaning action, which will be carried out in Nemila and around mid-June of 2014.
