SW Award Project - Environment
A group of Rovers from Venezuela successfully completed their SW Award Voluntary Service. The Project Turtles 2015, was held in La Playa Parguito located on the island of Margarita Nueva Esparta.
The aim of the project was to create a sense of belonging for the people that live in the area and raise awareness among tourists visiting the beach about the care of specific spawning areas and the importance of waste contaminants that threaten the life of the turtles that are in danger of extinction.
Together the team created a temporary SW Award Base there they made posters related to the conservation of the species and the care. These posters were strategically scattered along the beach. The Rovers also talked to two Scout Troops, tourists and residents about what they had leant during their SWAward Discovery and educate them on how they can help prevent the sea turtles fro extinction. The other part of the service was to clean up the beach and to help with the care of the protective zone of sea turtles and their spawning grounds.
