On September 23, during the 83rd Saudi National Day in Al Baha, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 7 Scouts from across the world were recognised as Messengers of Peace Heroes. This annual award was presented to the Scouts by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Saud, Minister of Education, and His Royal Highness Prince Mishari bin Saud bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, Deputy Minister of Education for their community work in Messengers of Peace.
Since 2011, Messengers of Peace has been recognising the many contributions made by Scouts and Volunteers toward peace. Our “Heroes” are selected based on their time, hard work and heart put into service actions in their local communities and for advancing the Mission of Scouting to create a better world.
For 2013, Ms. Atta Verin from Indonesia, Ms. Guadalupe Sanmateu from Spain, Ms. Irina Pruidze from Georgia, Mr. Jameel Fallata from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Nelson Ochieng Opany from Kenya, Ms. Sophie Castillo from Philippines, and Mr. Umit Savas Baran from Turkey received the Messengers of Peace Heroes Award. Each was commended for their work helping to achieve the vision of our founder, Baden-Powell to help in building peaceful communities around the world.
