Today I went out onto the site, meeting some of the Scouts arriving today at the Jamboree, and hearing their stories of how they got here. The great number of countries that people have come to this Jamboree from, means that they have passed through so many other places. The scouts I spoke to had come to Japan by way of places such as Los Angeles, Moscow, and Hong Kong. The number of places visited by the contingents on their journey's are just another reason that this truly is a World Jamboree. I also spoke to some of the scouts, to find out which of the new and amazing activities and experiences that the Jamboree has to offer. For many of the scouts, such as Patyo from Hungary, the thought of making new friends, particularly from other countries, was the experience they were most looking forward to. Sometimes just being abroad can be the most important thing. For Andiswa from Swaziland getting a taste of life in a different country, was the thing he is looking forward to. Muhammad from Pakistan told me he thinks that the fun will really begin once the Opening Ceremony has happened and the activities have really begun. I also spoke to Itaru from Japan, who told me (via the miracle of Google Translate) that even though he was excited, he wouldn't know what he was looking forward to in particular until the Jamboree began. A special mention must go to David from Mexico (pictured) for the most unique response I received today. He's planning to swap his fabulous sombrero charo, but only for something very cool! So if you have something that you think is cool enough, then find David, I'm sure he'll be easy to spot in that hat!
