Scouting and Guiding forms a big part of the lives of so many people; but while JOTI and penpal programs exist, there is minimal social media interaction where you can meet and learn more about Scouting and Guiding in other nations, and what it means to other people. A Tumblr-based Rover Scout blogger from Australia is working to change this, by sharing weekly interviews with Scouts and Guides from around the world with a project called ‘Zambarau Moot’.
Social media is a funny thing: Facebook allows you to connect with others, but you need to know who they are to start off with. Twitter allows you to connect to others in 140 characters. Tumblr uses keyword-tags to share similar-minded concepts. Using different ways, we can find different ways to connect.
Starting in August 2013, I plan to upload an interview with a different Scout/Guide, with their story of Scouting. Non-Scouters seem to think that all we do is tie knots and make campfires; but there is so much more to us than that.
