Collecting Food for the House of Peace
15th Mar 2013
About the House of Peace
"I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me..." Matthew 25:31
Inspired by the above passage from the book of Matthew, The House of Peace has been serving the needy in the heart of Milwaukee’s Central City since 1968. During this time it has been a Beacon of Hope for thousands of individuals who were without food or clothing. It has been there to comfort those in despair and to offer help to those who had nowhere else to turn. From its beginnings, the House of Peace has remained faithful to its Mission Statement.
There were 31 youth members participating in the project with an additional 59 youth that are not members. Also, there were eleven adult leaders who participated in this project. The boys along with their school helped collect, pack, donate, and deliver over 100 boxes of food to the House of Peace for a Thanksgiving Celebration. Along with the work that the school accomplished, over 100 pies were also donated to the House of Peace by school families.
Community service is an important part of our children's education. We also focus on community service projects in our Pack. Helping the House of Peace in this way was a very rewarding opportunity for our boys and the parents as well.
