Since the beginning of the pandemic, given the worsening of the economic and health crisis situation, many students had to face particularly difficult circumstances. Marie, a 21-year-old Scout leader in Beaupréau-en-Mauges in Western France, launched a charitable collection to support her fellow students at the Cholet campus.

”I am a third-year graduate student of Social sciences and as part of my degree I was supposed to come up with a joint project with the city of Cholet. Since I had witnessed first-hand the impact of Covid-19 on students, together with myScout unit, we decided to implement a collection of food, hygiene products and school supplies in grocery stores.

We collected more than 4000 items that we distributed at the university campus on 3 different occasions to more than 200 students. The idea was pretty simple: by giving 2€ , each student could get away with around 30 products. Everyone was touched by the initiative, even those who were not used to seek help.

This distribution was also a good opportunity for many to have interactions with peers, other than video calls.  The project was so successful that the university has decided to replicate it next year!” - said Marie.

Then she added:

“Being a Scouting has been very helpful throughout the activity because I was already used to being involved in a charity project as a volunteer, without asking anything but a smile in return. Being able to connect with other people without fear is also an added value acquired in Scouting activities that was particularly appreciated during the collection and distribution of items.“
