The Icelandic Boy and Girl Scout Association holds a "National Academy"

1. Ene 2010

Over the weekend of 6-8 November, Bandalag íslenskra skáta (BIS) held a "national academy" in their training centre at Laugar in Saelingsadl. Approximately 100 leaders attended the weekend, representing all of the Scout Groups in Iceland. Workshops were held on a variety of topics with lots of time in between sessions to allow participants to get to know each other and to discuss mutual challenges and opportunities.

The European Scout Region was please to provide Tailored Support for this event. Maeliosa DeBuitlear (Ireland) attended and facilitated 3 workshops on "Supporting Adult Volunteers", one on the Adults in Scouting model, then 2 others which provided the opportunity to focus on Recruitment, Training, Mutual Agreements & Review, and Support.

The hosts have emphasised that Milly's contribution was a very good start for them on this topic and that many were prompted to think about this issue in a positive way. Bragi Björnsson, the Chief Scout of BIS said: "I am really pleased with how it all went and we will definitely do this again."
