The United Nations is organising a competition to create an advertisement for the information campaign on the Millennium Development Goals. The aim of this competition, organised by the United Nation European Ads Against Poverty, is to encourage talents in advertising, graphic design, marketing or any related fields and to stimulate world leaders to confirm the promises made in 2000. Inspire people and involve them in the work to fight against poverty to reduce it, reduce hunger worldwide and reach the Millennium Development Goals by 2015. Deadline for applications is 15 June 2010!

“Unleash your creativity against poverty” is the message provided to the participants in this competition. Any citizens and residents of the 48 UN Member States in Europe with creative ideas, students or professionals can participate. The assignment is to create a print advertisement that will be used as a public service announcement to be published in major European print media. Well known personalities from the advertising industry, the photography and art world as well as development experts will compose the jury and select the winners with support of the general public.

April is the opening month for the launch of the submission website. Public voting starts in April as well and ends on 15 June 2010. 30 finalists will be selected by popular vote and competition organisers on the competition website. A jury comprising of prominent European marketing and advertising experts, as well as United Nations communication and development experts will choose the winner among the finalists in June. The contributions can be send by email

In 2000, at the United Nations Millennium summit, 189 world leaders signed an historic commitment, the Millennium Declaration and Development Goals. The first main goal is to cut poverty by half by the year 2015. All those goals are summarised in an eight-point roadmap and with just 5 years to the target date, 2010 has been proclaimed as the Millennium Development Goals year by the UN Secretary General. A high-level summit will take place at the United Nations General Assembly in September. The “We can End Poverty 2015” campaign is a highlight of the international year with the aim of informing and engaging citizens in supporting and taking action in the Millennium Development Goals.
