As part of the continuing good relations between the Asia-Pacific Region’s of World Association of Girl Guide and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and the Asia Pacific Region of World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), a team of regional committee members of WAGGGS paid a courtesy call on APR Chairman and Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines Jejomar C Binay at his office in Manila on 15th November 2010.
WAGGGS Vice-Chairman Normala Baharudin of Malaysia, Committee Members Ruchira Jayasinghe of Sri Lanka and Febe Marl Gamiao Paat of the Philippines made the visit while they are in the country for the Partnership Visit with the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP), the equivalent of WOSM APR’s Committee NSO Visit (CNV). Officials of GSP including the past WAGGGS AP Chairman Nina Yuson and Regional Director Abdullah Rasheed joined the visit.
The Vice-President talked about his government projects specifically housing for overseas Filipino workers and presented the opportunity for Girl Scouts to participate in the painting of houses for the workers along with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) which has initiated the project and created a proficiency badge for housing.
Vice-Chairman Normala shared WAGGGS strategic plan focusing on membership growth and programme. Since 2007, national strategic planning in National Scout Organizations which are both members of WAGGGS and WOSM within the Asia Pacific Region – such as The Bharat Scouts and Guides/ India and Nepal Scouts – have been undertaken with the mutual involvement of both organizations.
Similarly, the CNV mission to India last May organized by WOSM APR was a joint mission and was a very fruitful exercise. The next review of Nepal Scouts' strategic plan scheduled for December 2010 will be undertaken jointly to be followed by a CNV mission in Nepal in April 2011.
The Regional Scout Committees of both WAGGGS and WOSM have been meeting regularly since 2004.
