World Scouting Growth Seminar
As part of the effort towards “enabling 100 million young people to be active citizens”, WOSM has piloted targeted support to growth to 30 National Scout Organizations, which have been identified based on their high growth potential. With WOSM’s support, these NSOs will have a chance to develop growth strategies and action plans that will lead to sustainable growth. As part of this initiative, WOSM organized a World Scouting Growth Seminar (WSGS). The event aimed to contribute to WOSM’s Vision 2023 by creating an opportunity for leaders from 30 National Scout Organizations to exchange ideas, success stories and challenges related to growth in their national contexts. The event also enabled WOSM to collect best practices on growth which will then be circulated widely to all NSOs.
The WSGS was held in Pforzheim, Germany, from 26 to 28 October 2018. In addition to the NSOs invited, members of the Senior Management Team of the One World Scout Bureau were present to enable immediate follow up on the action plans each NSO develops as during the event. As part of the Seminar, the NSOs present shared ongoing growth projects and exchanged best practices. These examples have been captured and will soon be reflected in a 13th Service area on Growth developed as part of the WOSM Services. This service area will contain support for NSOs to develop their own growth strategy or incorporate growth as a strategic objective of their existing national strategy. Further, it will contain not only examples of best practices and ideas for increasing outreach from the World Scouting Growth Seminar, but also from other NSOs and NGOs.
The NSOs involved in the targeted support to growth initiative will be supported in the coming months to ensure they reach the targets set out in their growth strategies by using the necessary WOSM Services. They will also be tasked to act as lighthouses in their respective regions and support the efforts of other NSOs effectively ensuring we are all Growing Together.
