The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) has partnered with the World Scout Bureau Asia-Pacific Region (WSB/APSC) to promote and to strengthen its implementation of the different programmes under the Better World Framework, including World Scouting’s newest initiative, Scouts for SDGs.

As a result of this partnership, WSB/APSC thru Regional Director J. Rizal C. Pangilinan has committed to assist BSP in conducting series of Seminar-Workshops on the Sustainable Development Goals and the Better World Framework throughout the country. The first two legs of the workshop were conducted separately in BSP’s Eastern Visayas Region – the first one was in Catarman, Northern Samar on 15-17 March 2019 with 51 participants, and the second one was in Tagbilaran City, Bohol on 22-24 March 2019 with 50 participants.

In his address to the participants, J. Rizal C. Pangilinan, WOSM’s Regional Director for the Asia-Pacific Region assured the participants that this is an extraordinary opportunity to capacitate local leaders about WOSM’s newest initiatives and world programmes.

This gives us an extraordinary opportunity not only to shape the development of young people across the world to become upstanding global citizens and leaders, but more importantly, to effect real and positive change in the world through our tangible contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Your pool of experienced facilitators and resource persons will help you understand the concept of peace, the culture of peace and the culture of dialogue thru the Messengers of Peace Programmes. You will be challenged to think about global issues and act upon them locally in your respective communities, and how to protect and preserve our cultural heritage with the Scouts of the World Award Programme and the Patrimonito Scout Badge. You will also have the opportunity to connect with nature, to think about how you interact with the environment and how you will be able to take action thru the World Scout Environment Programme and the Scouts Go Solar. You will also get to experience, first hand, WOSM’s newest initiative and global solidarity for gender equality, the HeForShe,” he further stated.

During his message, BSP Secretary General Rogelio S. Villa, Jr. expressed his gratitude to WOSM for helping them and their leaders better understand the world programmes thru an expert pool of speakers and facilitators.

“I congratulate and extend my warm felicitations, thanks a gratitude to the World Organization of the Scout Movement, most especially to the World Scout Bureau Asia-Pacific Support Centre under the stewardship of Regional Director J Rizal C Pangilinan for partnering with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines in strengthening the implementation of Scouts for SDGs and the Better World Framework.”

The seminar-workshop series will run throughout the country on several legs, targeting participation from programme implementers and unit leaders directly handling Scout units and troops. WSB/APSC and BSP is yet to identify the remaining locations for the remaining legs of the workshop.

The seminar-workshop was made possible thru the Messengers of Peace Support Fund.
