United, we can help the healing to begin
"I hope that more and more people are able to rise above divisions, avoiding conflicts, wars, and civilizational dangers. Once again the world needs solidarity and shared responsibility. The Scout movement has the advantage of having for long spoken of peace, cooperation, and action for the common good, it works globally and understands the concept of a global community and cooperation."
Lech Walesa, former President of the Republic of Poland in his letter addressed to the 2014 World Scout Conference in Slovenia.
Last week, a 3-day terror attack in Paris led to the lost of many innocent lives. Although overcome with shock and sadness, nations have united and rallied behind France in condemning this brutal massacre. Additionally, the world just learned of the bombing of a marketplace in Nigeria.
To my brother and sister Scouts around the world: Never before has the brotherhood and sisterhood of our Scout Movement been more important. Reach out – show the world around you that peace is possible and that, as Scouts, we stand together as Messengers of Peace. Through our combined, personal example of living our Promise each and every day we can help heal a world that so badly needs peace.
To my brother and sister Scouts who are suffering in any way from the tragedies of the recent days: Stay strong and find solace in knowing that 40 million Scouts around the world stand with you as Messengers of Peace in their combined quest to show their communities that peace is indeed possible.
No matter what your faith may be, please keep our brother and sister Scouts, the victims and their families who are suffering from the tragic events, in your thoughts and prayers. United, we can help the healing to begin.
