On 27 September 2018, Slovenian Scouts together with 26 other outdoor, civil society, landowners, and state organizations, launched a common code of conduct for visiting nature in Slovenia. It is based on the existing local rules and traditions, aiming at conserving nature and improving the sustainability of visitor experience.

The content of the document is actually nothing new, everything has already been a part of certain regulations but we managed to gather and unite different rules, different areas, each organization adding its piece to the bigger picture.

The final product is a set of rules that are very user-friendly, understandable, and apply to nature all over Slovenia – from the sea to the mountains and forests.

The process of bringing 27 different organizations together and finding a common language was not easy. We all have nature in common but some of the signatories are the owners, others are visitors, therefore, our ideas were a bit different at the beginning. After some negotiations, hard work, and finding the right way that will help us preserve nature in our country, we are very proud of the code of conduct called Visiting Nature in Slovenia.

Creating and signing the code of conduct surely is an accomplishment.

But we are now at the stage where the real work begins.

Each organization that has been a part of this process will now be responsible for distributing the document and teaching their members how to use it.

We hope that we will have the funds and human resources to be able to train enough people to spread the message and educate the general public. We believe every school, every outdoor organisation, every natural park should be aware of this code of conduct and respect it.
