My life as a Pinkie
Located in a small valley in the Swiss Alps, altitude of 1 200 meters and only 65 kilometers south of Berne, is the Kandersteg International Scout Center (Kisc), also known as the permanent Mini- Jamboree. For a while Baden Powell dreamed of a place like this, where young people from all over the world could enjoy nature and the virtues of Scouting, in 1923 his dream came true.
The first time I heard about Kisc was during the XXIV Interamerican Scout Conference in Panama and since then it was in my mind to go to this magical place. As their motto, live the dream of the permanent Mini-Jamboree. Finally, I decided to apply as short time staff of kisc and fate gave me the joy of living the fall of 2017 surrounded by stunning landscapes and a group of wonderful people, from all over the world and full of a great scout spirit.
Being a staff at Kisc is not easy work, every day is full of new challenges and things to learn, but the definition of work changes completely in this place, whether you are cooking, or the daily cleaning activities, laughter, craziness and scout attitude will make every moment unforgettable. Working with people from different parts of the world, with their own experiences and ideas will make you grow as a person, make you rethink some things of life, maybe some other positions you never thought about, but the most important thing is that in each of the pinkies in kisc, you will find a brother or sister; a friend or a confident, you'll find people as crazy as you or maybe a little more. After going through this magical place, you will have a unique family, full of people very different from you and very similar, all united under the banner of the Scout Movement.
Now that I told you a very small part of what it is to be staff in kisc, you should know that the World Scout Center is magical too, when visiting with your friends or your scout group, even as an individual adventure. The impressive landscapes surrounding the center, the plenty activities you can do such as: hiking, rock climbing, swimming in a lake or skating if its winter, will make your experience here unforgettable. Certainty I can tell you that once you visit Kisc you will never want to leave this place.
I could continue describing you a lot of details and stories about my experience, but finally this place will stay forever in my heart. Certain things cannot be described in words and some others must be discovered and lived by oneself. This is why I invite you to visit this beautiful and unique place that will be forever and for every scout, our home ... sweet home.
