Scouts Go Solar in Zimbabwe
Within the framework of the #AfricaScoutDay International Camp, 16 participants have undergone a special training on SCOUTS GO SOLAR programme. The purpose of the programme is to sensitize Scouts about green energy and its benefits. The training was conducted on the 8th and 9th March 2018.
Mr. Paddington, one of the pioneers of the Scouts Go Solar assisted by Mrs Josephine Moses ably took the participants through various sessions on the subject matter. The facilitators presented solar energy as a clean source of energy and generally cheap compared to most other sources energy.
Participants are also introduced to basics on electrical work and related tools and safely. On advising the participants, the facilitators said when dealing with electricity one should “use the right tools for the right job”
During one of the practical sessions, participants were given all require parts and later guided to build their own solar lamps. The satisfaction on the faces of participants was so evident to discover what they could produce themselves and the potential that could be in them.
Part of the day 2 of this training focussed on how to build mobile power stations called solar suitcase , Copen hagen solar cooker, sundial and toys for the children.
Participants were also given the opportunity to do a solar road-show for kids on the importance and use of solar energy. During the roadshow, they presented innovations such as solar Suitcase, Solar beep, Solar Art, Solar Fountain, Solar heating and Solar race. At the end of the training participants received their certificates of participation from Go Solar Africa.
Participants are excited and left wanting more of such a practical and relevant training!
