From the 6th to the 7th of October the first Lekgotla took place, a conference where everybody, regardless of their position, could have a say in national processes and their voice would be heard.
On Friday morning after everybody was at the conference centre the programme started with the registration and receiving of the conference bags. After a good breakfast and an introduction to the programme, the strategic intent was presented and discussed in working groups. “There is a progress, we can move forward”, says one conference participant, “and we could see that we are not alone with our problems in our groups”.
From the strategic intent, the topic moved to the needs of the groups to achieve objectives. Constitutional changes were shared with the participants and discussed. The database was introduced and an overview of its features was given. It was agreed that this database is urgently required and very helpful to spread information.
The Messengers of Peace Project got many supporters that evening. “I can’t wait to go back to my group/district/region and start my own project”, was the most common response.
The presentation with maybe the most positive feedback started, the presentation about SCOUTS South Africa’s financial situation. People were glad it was shared with them and now they could understand where their membership fees are going to.
Following were two presentations about marketing, incorporating branding and adult recruitment, and the Alumni Network before the conference was closed.
The participants came up with a lot of creative ideas on how to recruit adults so that there is a lot of hope that SSA is going to grow even more.
