Scouting in Schools improving the lives of Western Cape youngsters

‘It’s has made a huge impact in the schools. The kids do not want the year to end,’ said Ayanda, one of the interns of the Scouting in Schools programme.

This after school Scouting programme has been changing the lives of 1,200 young people from 27 schools in Western Cape, South Africa, through exciting Scouts and Cubs activities. Among others, it has helped many of them to focus on their studies.

The young people are not the only ones who are benefitting from the programme. Interns who received training on the Scouting programme and adult leadership, also had the chance to take part in Scouting events.

‘My best experience was to stand in front of children and tell them about Scouting. That decreased my low self-esteem and has boosted my self-confidence,’ said Akhona.

Another intern, Anelisa said, ‘It has taught me to be responsible and to chase after my dreams irrespective of the obstacles in the way’.
