The President of Colombia named Honorary Ambassador of the Messenger of Peace Programme.
The President of Colombia and recipient of the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize, Juan Manuel Santos, was named Honorary Ambassador of the Messenger of Peace Programme by the Scouts of Colombia and the World Scout Bureau - Interamerican Regional Support Centre.
In a ceremony with scouts of all ages from Colombia, he expressed his feelings about receiving the designation.
“I am very honoured to receive this designation as Ambassador of the Messengers of Peace. From now on, I become a spokesperson of this programme and above all of the values that this scarf represents.”
He then spoke about the importance of promoting Scouting values in the world.
“This is a programme of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, a movement that works all over the world, promoting with accions the values of peace. This programme develops a culture of peace, solidarity and tolerance. Values that are most needed here in Colombia, in the region and in the world.”
He also talked about the 86 years of the Colombian Scout Association and of their important role educating young people that, quoting his own words, “play a very important role of service to their communities.”
The President concluded by thanking the scouts of the whole world for working to create a better future for everyone.
