Soup for people in need
On the 18 August 2016, 36 Cubs, 24 Scouts and 8 Scouters of 1st Table View came together to support the Table View Angels and make soup for the people in need in Table View. There was a great turn out from both the Cubs and Scouts and it was great seeing the different age groups working together. There were children that had never peeled a vegetable before in their life and some had never helped in the kitchen.
They were divided into teams which would peel and cut the vegetables. Each group of Cubs had an adult or a Scout assisting them. We also spoke to them about Table View angels and the work that they do in our community. We made 103 l of soup and it was delivered to the Table View Angels for the families of Table View. This was a huge accomplishment as the Cubs have never done community service work and this was the start of many more hours to come.
We spoke to the children about Food for Life and how to grow their own vegetables. Each child was given a Food for Life book and a seedling plant. We hope that the seedlings will produce plenty vegetables so that the cubs and scouts will see the benefits of producing healthy vegetables.
