6th Youth Parliament on Demanding "Right to Food Law"
Youth Against Hunger is going to organize 6th Youth Mock Parliament on demanding "Right to Food Law" on October 17, 2017 at Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka. In the 6th YMP 300 participants will represent 300 constituency of National Parliament of Bangladesh. The 300 participants will cover from distinguish institutions of our country. And 150 will present as guest and observer. Here will be a Speaker, Prime Minister, Opposition Leader, and Minister among the youths.
Youth Mock Parliament (YMP) is a creative and new approach of "Youth Against Hunger" (YAH) to catch attentions of the Policy Maker’s on different issues. We empowered by the vision of a hunger and poverty free Bangladesh by 2021. YAH is mobilizing youth following the spirit, “Don’t let hunger end our youth, let our youth end hunger!”
Together with Hunger Free World, Youth Against Hunger have successfully done five sessions of YMP. 1st & 2nd both session's theme was on Right to Food and it was held in 2014 & 2015; 3rd sessions’ theme was on Right to Work and it was held in March 2016; and 4th & 5th session’s theme was on Food is My Right, Work too and it was held in October 2016 and March 23, 2017.
Youth Mock Parliamentarians followed the rules of business alike of Bangladesh National Parliament, supervised by their officials. The mock parliament demanded to enact a law to ensure the Right to Food for every citizen of Bangladesh for all times. The demand was shared with the policy makers through publication of a proceeding of the youth mock parliament and later with the assistance of the Parliament secretariat this proceedings was shared with the Members of the Parliament of Bangladesh.
There are many issues that need to be addressed and some effective measures to be taken by the government to ensure the right to food by the Bangladesh Food Security Act 2016, in particular. Members of 6th Youth Mock Parliament will discuss on the provisions of Draft Food Security Act. 2016 and will recommend some policies to the government, ensuring the right to food of the citizens.
