"Leader+" The Brand New Training Programme For Adult Volunteers

On 13-16 August over 75 adult leaders of The Polish Scouting and Guiding Association (ZHP) participated in the Summer Training Action in the Tatra Mountains. It was an inauguration of a brand new training programme named “Leader +”, which aims to improve the quality of leadership in Polish scouting. The participants also took part in mountain hiking, various workshops like traditional dance, painting on glass and pottery. During the evening programme they participated in campfires and concerts.

Leader + is a training programme specially designed for scout leaders and based on managerial training. It is especially useful for those, who take the position of a team leader on various levels of the organisation. The goal is to develop their skills such as effective communication, expand the knowledge how to manage and motivate people and acquire a number of leadership techniques applicable in practical situations.

After the training the participants will have the knowledge and skills necessary to:
• Manage people by influencing their behaviour
• Management cycles
• Adapt management style to the level of your co-worker independence
• Recognise team leaders’ attitudes to others
• Delegate tasks and powers
• Conduct a consultation call (active listening)
• Conduct individual and team problem-solving conversation and make decisions based on facts
• Provide feedback

These are the skills all leaders should learn, as no one is born with them. Scouting is based on leadership, on the attitudes and skills of those who are scout leaders to their teams’ members. We expect them to give the best personal example. Leader + is the way to achieve it in our association.
