We have discussed Global Trends in education and the most important – and most threatening – we found out is that in general the quality of education is worsening. This can be ascribed to different factors, depending on the countries. In France, Croatia, Sweden and Austria, for example, it’s clear that the focus of the education is not on helping young people become active and open-minded citizens anymore, but on theoretical information. Additionally, all teachers think that their subject is the most important, that’s why students are constantly overstrained with homework and studying for tests. Also there are big quality differences between schools. What’s more is that, for example in Portugal there are 200 students attending one university class – but only one teacher. In Kuwait the main problem is that students are not interested at all in what is taught in school. Bullying is one of the main factors of worsening quality of education in Japan. And finally we talked about the corruption and political influence in the Mexican school system. For all the above reasons, we as Scouts have the responsibility to offer additional knowledge.
