Scouts Up The Creek

The day was hot, the youth were hot and the ground was steamy…It was hot work but very enjoyable. Eighty Cub Scouts and Scouts from Charles Snow District in Brisbane, Australia, invited their Leaders, parents, family and community members to join them as part of the annual Clean Up Australia campaign. The MoP teams collected loads of rubbish from the suburbs of Toombul and Nundah as they walked along the ecologically important Kedron Brook, cleaning up the sides of the banks and along the bike paths which are used constantly by members of the community. The Cleaning teams started at Melton Rd Toombul and went through to the Southern Cross/Gateway Motorway.

It was very hot and steamy and many volunteers, especially the younger scouts, were pretty tired because of their hard work outside with the high temperature and humidity. That’s one reason why the youth in the photos aren’t really happy- but they were pleased with their great efforts and exhausted. The scouts demonstrated the scout method and in small teams used hiking as well as canoes in the creek to gather the collected rubbish to the agreed points where they arranged for the local council team to dispose of the rubbish. Well done team. A real example of scouts engaging with their community to make a difference and joining part of larger groups of Scouts and other community groups throughout Australia.
