NIGERIA - The Scout Association of Nigeria, celebrated the 2014 National Scouts Conference under the theme, “Scouting, Vehicle and Driver of Peace, Unity and Harmony”, in Uyo, the transformational City of Akwa Ibom State.
The conference was attended by over 230 Leaders of the Association from 31 States out of a total 36 States in Nigeria plus the Federal Capital Territory Abuja. The program started on Friday 20th June with the 2nd National Executive Committee meeting that was chaired by the Chief Commissioner of Scout of Nigeria; Olori Om-Oba Olusoga Sofolahan-Atibioke. Some of the issues raised and discussed were the registrations of members with the National Scout Organization, census, Adult in Scouting Workshops and Training, Youth Conference and Partnership in Scouting.
Day two witnessed the 2014 Annual General meeting of the Association, which was chaired by Engr. Ahmadu Rufai Mohammed – MON, The Chief Scout of Nigeria and Head of National Scout Council. The program gave rise to the Partnership opportunities between the Scout Association of Nigeria and the United Nation Children Education Fund (UNICEF). The organization took the opportunity to introduce the U-Report and we reciprocated with the Messengers of Peace project.
Culture and Diversity were equally emphasized with a cultural display of the Akwa Ibom State Cultural troop that displayed the rich culture of the State. Wrapping the Conference up was the 9 months reports and financial statement of the Association, while 10 Conference resolutions were reviewed, discussed and adopted.
The 2015 Annual General meeting has been scheduled for Osun State, South West of Nigeria. Special thanks will be given to Niger Insurance Plc and Her Lordship, the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State and the President of the Akwa Ibom State Scout Council, Hon. Justice Mrs. Idongesit Ntem Isua for their special contributions to the success of these meeting.
