On the afternoon of 3 March 2017, President Tsai Ing-wen met with a delegation of Scouts led by Chief Commissioner of Scouts of China, Lin Yu-Chang, to present the national Scout scarf and the Chief Scout letter of appointment. During the ceremony, President Tsai acknowledged and recognised the value and educational aspects of Scouting. She also expected Scouts be more attuned to international news and happenings around the world to face the new era. In her remarks, President Tsai expressed her appreciation for all efforts contributed by Scouts, and stated that Scouting trains the mind of young people, enables them to learn teamwork, get close to nature, and participate in community service. President Tsai also received the Messengers of Peace (MoP) scarf from Scouts of China. She pointed out that the MoP Initiative is a good project to encourage more young people to learn and understand about international conflicts, regional development, environmental protection and other issues about social justice. She also mentioned that receiving the MoP scarf is not just a responsibility, it also signifies that the government is serious and as committed as Scouts in advocating peace. “Once a Scout, always a Scout...” and “... continue the Scout spirit!” — President Tsai Ing-wen.
