The Colombo District Branch of the Sri Lanka Scouts Association is celebrating 100 years this year. The Executive Committee along with the uniformed leaders and members have outlined an active calendar to celebrate and commemorate this land mark. The calibrations started with religious ceremonies keeping in line with the scout promise of duty to religion and will continue throughout the year with special service projects to society and skill development activities for the scouts and an International Jamboree in August.
One of the scheduled programs is the ‘Scout Colombo Hobby Fair and Exhibition’ District which is Was held on 27 April 2014 at the Ape Gama Handicraft Centre at Batharamulla.
According to the organizers the 75th Colombo District Rover Crew the objectives of the events Were as follows:
a. Encourage scouts to take up a hobby.
b. Display the scouts and scouter’s collections.
c. Provide an opportunity for cubs and scouts to meet the leaders from the Asia Pacific region.
d. Create a window for the public to see the activities carried out by the Sri Lanka Scouts Association.
There was a several exhibits and activities including special and rear display of scout badges, stamps, coins and other scout memorabilia. The Messengers Of Peace Display Unit Was Such a Significant One On The Exhibition Flore, and an Indeed Its Added a Great Attraction To Exhibition. Through Our Display Unit We Could Able To Provide an Initial & Considerable Assistance To Non MoP Scouts To Become a MoP's & Inspire The World, and With Our Support Few Scouts Were Created Their MoP Profiles On The Scout Org & Got The Access To Walk With Us. Trust They Will Keep Up Their Good Deeds & Continuously an Inspire The World. as Well as The Arrivals Of Great Personalities In Current World Scouting Arena Into Our Display Unit, Made Us So Happy, Moreover Its an Honor For an Entire MoP Platform.
Most of the exhibits were from scouts both young and old and several from organizations that have had an association with scouts such as Amateur Radio Enthusiasts will be on display.
Other exhibits will include model railway, key tags, caps, and workshops in stamp collecting and photography.
