It was all pomp and colour as the Regional Director Africa Scout Region presided over the graduation ceremony of the Kenya School of Flying. This 21st Private Pilot Licence graduation ceremony for the school’s pilot trainees was held at its Orly Air Park Campus on 27th April 2014.

During the graduation, one of the Scout Leaders of Young Aviators Air Scouts Open Troop in Langata District, Captain Khalid Sheikh Abdulkhadir, was honoured for having broken the School’s long-standing record by being able to fly solo safely after just 7 hours of training! Two other Scout Leaders from the troop, Captain Peter Muller, and Captain Brian Muturi joined him in staging a breath taking and spectacular air show together with other selected pilots from the school.

In his speech, the Regional Director challenged the graduates to maintain high levels of discipline and commitment and work towards changing the face of the very rich Africa Continents. Captain Joseph Martin, the Managing Director of the School and Hon. Clement Muchiri Wambugu, echoed the same sentiments.

Captain Joseph Martin has been a great supporter of the Air Scouts Open Troop and among other support areas allowed the Air Scouts unlimited access to a large campsite adjacent to the Air Park Campus. “ This would allow the Air Scouts to have a first hand experience on flying and the workings of a plane,” Observes the delighted Group Scout Leader Captain Mercy Makau.

The Kenya Scouts Association National Executive Commissioner Moses Danda, Programme Executive Josephat Gitonga and the Langata District Scout Commissioner, Habley Mugodo also attended the event. Mr. Danda lauded the troop for the good work and its potential in supporting the process of revitalising Air Scouting in Kenya.
During the graduation, the Air Scouts from the open troop was at hand to offer essential services.
