Great turnout of Scouts in Earth Hour Singapore
The Singapore Scout Association (SSA) has been supporting Earth Hour since it began in 2009, the event managed by WWF Singapore.
This year, Singapore hosted Spider-Man, the first Earth Hour’s global super hero ambassador at the The Float @ Marina Bay, overlooking the beautiful skyline of the Marina Bay area on 29 March 2014.
An increase in participation has been seen every year, and 2014 saw the largest participation of more than 1,500 Scouts and 64 volunteers.
Thousands of people turned up to show their support and to catch hold of the star cast members of the Amazing Spider-Man 2. The event saw a record participation from 350 organisations, including SSA, with more than 60 iconic structures across the Marina Bay skyline ‘blacked out’ during the hour.
SSA’s booth was privileged to receive a visit from Dr Marco Lambertini, the incoming Director-General of WWF International.
Theme for this year was that every person has the power to be a superhero by making small changes to save the planet: adjusting the air-conditioning up by 1 degree; using fewer plastic bags; switching to power-saving LED lights; and taking shorter showers.
The event saw thousands of people and their pledges to use their power to reduce to save the Earth. This was on top of the effort to do so at the pledge centre at the SSA Headquarters prior to the Earth Hour event.
With another great success, The Singapore Scout Association and its members are definitely looking forward to continue our support for Earth Hour.
