Course for Assistant Leader Trainers (CALT), Malaysia 2014 #CALT2014MY

“Masuk ke dalam kandang kambing mengembik, masuk ke dalam kandang kerbau menguak.” (When we visit a different country other than ours, we need to respect its culture). Those were the words of Dato' Paduka Haji Abdul Shukor bin Mohsin, the National Training Commissioner of Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia, during the Opening Ceremony of the Course for Assistant Leader Trainers (CALT). Together with him during the Opening Ceremony was Tuan Haji Yaacob bin Karim, Chief State Commissioner of Johor Bahru.

Mr. Syd Castillo, Director of Youth Programme of the Asia-Pacific Regional Office of the World Scout Bureau, reminded the participants that the course is not an end but a start of a process of learning.

Attended by 155 Scout Leaders, 15 out of the 17 Scout States were represented. Comprising of five courses, this CALT was held from 6-12 March 2014 at the Univeriti Tun Hussein Onn in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Seven overseas Scout Leaders, from Scouts of China and Maldives, also attended the course.

The course is considered a historical one since Persekutuna Pangkap Malaysia opened the number of participants to the Scout States and it won encouraging response from these States. The last CALT was organized in March 2010 at International Youth Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
