Lithuanian sea scout OPTIMISTS

We are creating - Mobile training tool for sailing - 8 Optimist class yachts. Training tool will consist of trailer of 8 Optimists, rescue motor boat and minibus. We are aiming to complete the project by summer 2017. Trailer will travel where is need for sailing and young people to use it.
We are going to build boats OURSELVES, it will be learning process. We would like to take part in regattas, learn to sail where there is a time and conditions, whether it’s lake, lagoon, sea, in Lithuania or abroad.
We chose one of the most popular small sport class yacht in the world - OPTIMIST. All the world yachtclubs and young sailors begin from this yacht class.

Target group and adaptability: Optimists will be used by 8-16 year young people in summer camps, regattas, educational and training programmes for schools in Lithuania or abroad. This training tool adaptability is very wide, learning is individual, but also very related with teamwork.

We start to build Optimists on 14th of November 2016 in Ukmergė youth leisure center and Ukmergė region Siesikų gymnasium. The project involves over 100 Ukmergė sea scouts, some of their parents, Europe Voluntary service volunteers from Romania and Ukraine and other countries, Lithuanian scouts, sailors, active youth and everyone who wants to be part of the project.

About the yacht OPTIMIST
Optimist was created by Clark Mills (USA) in 1947 for Clearwater Florida Optimist club as cheap and easy to build yacht for up to 16 year old young people. In those days (nowadays too) begginers in sailing build their yachts themselves (with adult supervision) of plywood sheets. It was natural way to know structure of boat and start sailing.

50% of the project is funded by Scout Valley, but we are searching for support for the rest of 50%.
