Cyprus has been going through some very hard times, following a financial crisis affecting the country over the past year. Many of our neighbours are out of work for many months and are really struggling to get through each day. Lots are relying on food being provided by the community social support groceries, who in turn rely heavily on donations from other community members who may be a little bit luckier.

Having all the above in mind, and given that the Christmas festive season is around the corner, Boy scouts and Cub Scouts from the 273rd Airscout group in Nicosia, Cyprus, had visited homes in the vicinity near our Scout shack a week in advance and had circulated a poster they made, together with 1 recyclable plastic bag, informing the community residents that they would be visiting their homes in one week time to collect food and other basic necessity items.

The picture shows Cub Scouts of our group unloading one of the many car boots that were filled during the door to door collection. The response to our Group's initiative had been overwhelming. So much so that even persons who had not received our poster, dashed into their homes and donated whatever they could find stored in their kitchens.

The final count was approximately 200kg of food supplies (dry food, coffee, sugar, flour, etc), numerous toys, and 2 suitcases full of clothing and shoes were collected.
The group members wish that their efforts will hopefully go towards the relief of a few families in dire need this coming Christmas.

Like true Messengers of Peace, the 273rd Airscout group in Cyprus wishes everyone all over the world Peace and Happiness.
