Relief Operation by Scouts in the Philippines
BANGON ILOILO - A relief operation organized by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Iloilo (Confesor) Council and ESOP-ILOILO Chapter - was organized to help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda in Northern Iloilo.
On 16th November 2013 the first wave of relief operations was conducted at Brgy, Macalbang, Concepcion, Iloilo with 140 packs of relief goods distributed to 140 persons. Each pack contained 1 kilo of rice, 4 packs of noodles, 2 cans of sardines and 2 bottles of mineral water. They also distributed clean, used, clothing.
The relief goods were gathered from Bito-on Elementary School and Cubay Elementary School in the District of Jaro in Iloilo City. For the second wave of relief goods distribution, the process of gathering relief goods from other schools is underway and hopefully they can make packs good for 200 people to be distributed to Pali, Ajuy, Iloilo on November 23, 2013.
On 19th November a check for $10'000 from the Messengers of Peace Initiative, was handed over to the Vice-President of the Philippines who thanked the Scouts for their enormous effort in the relief operations in the effected area.
Scout Units in the vicinity of the typhoon affected areas have conducted relief operations at their respective level. "Scouts helping fellow Scouts" was the battlecry as they went out to reach some of the most remote areas.
