More than 1,200 Scouts from 14 African and 2 non-African nations have converged on Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire for the 7th African Scouts Jamboree (#‎7ASJ2016). The biggest Scout event on the continent in 2016, the Jamboree aims to further empower young people in Africa.

“That is what Scouting wants to do – to help you to be better persons and to play an active role in the development of this continent,” remarked João Armando Gonçalves, World Scout Committee Chairperson in his speech (link to speech) at the Opening Ceremony. He also underscored young peoples’ role in driving positive change in their communities.

The 7th Africa Scout Jamboree has engaged Scouts in global issues ranging from cultural diversity, faiths and beliefs, peace dialogue, community service, sustainable development and the environment as well as information and communication technology through various activities.

The Better World Tent in particular, has proven to be a crowd puller. Since day one, it has drawn steady crowds with interactive experiences that inspire young people with different ways to take action and create a better world.
