Appeal for help to typhoon victims
After super typhoon Haiyan left massive destruction over the Visayas region of the Philippines, Regional Director Mr Jose Rizal C Pangilinan sends an appeal for help from friends and colleagues in the international community of Scouting.
Here is the gist of the appeal released through a regional circular:
“Over the weekend, you must have seen from mass media and social media the heartbreaking catastrophe brought by super typhoon Yolanda (international codename: Haiyan) that swept over several towns and cities in the Visayas region of the Philippines. True to its name, Haiyan (ocean swallow) decimated towns and killed thousands of people. Local media reports that over 600,000 people are homeless.
Boy Scouts of the Philippines National Office is now receiving support from the local and international community of Scouting. The challenges are great but in our own Scout way, many Scout councils in different provinces and cities have launched their own campaigns to collect funds and relief goods for immediate assistance.
The APR office is extending support to facilitate and receive donations from National Scout Organizations and individuals from other countries. Assessing that it would take many months or several years to rebuild lives and livelihood in the hardest hit areas, your generous donation will be used for medium and long-term projects for rehabilitation and rebuilding.”
