On the banks of the Nile in Khartoum, Sudan, the national celebrations of Scouting's Centenary were launched.
“Today we celebrated Founder's Day by hosting a great festival. Scout members went in a big procession to the centre of Khartoum singing songs and waving flags and Baden Powell photos,” said Mohamed Salih of the Sudanese Scouts.
Mr Salih added that “the Air Scouts and Sea Scouts presented great shows that were highly appreciated by the Sudanese citizens.”
The Sea Scouts put on a great show along the Nile as part of the festivities.
The celebration was attended senior officials of affiliated organisations, local Scout leaders and by the Minister of Youth and Sport –Abd Elgadir Mohamed Zein who made a speech congratulating all Scout members on the 100th anniversary of the Scout Movement.
Baden-Powell visited Sudan in 1935.
